Workflow Overview

EZlineup is a tool to automatically and accurately calibrate the offsets between a tracking system with its trackers and tracking origin, and the poses that are actually desired for rendering, like the camera sensor and the studio origin.

1. Pre-requisites

1.1. Lens Calibration

Since this solution is based on computer vision, the first crucial first step is to calibrate the lens. It has to be done using EZprofile. The more precise the calibration the better the result, and the same calibration can be used afterward when rendering CG elements, so it is important to do this step properly.

1.2. Tracking System Setup

The line-up computed can only be as good as the data it receives. if tracking data is too noisy or not spacially consistent, the solver will give the best result it can to minimize the error over the samples, but it will not make the tracking magically better.

So before starting a line-up calibration, make sure the tracking system is properly set up and calibrated. If you roughly measure the offsets with a ruler you should get sensible results already. EZlineup will help you go the extra mile for a perfect fit.

2. EZlineup Workflow

Once everything is set up, the workflow is straightforward:

  • prepare the data received
  • place the cube in a convenient position
  • pan and tilt the camera and take a picture of the cube at each orientation
  • move the camera to a new position and repeat the pan/tilt step
  • do the moving and pan/tilt steps a few times to roughly cover the tracked area
